How to Overcome the Challenges of Handling 5.5-Meter-Long Materials? Multiway Robotics MW-O30 Omnidirectional Side Loader Enables Intelligent Logistics Upgrade for a Leading Chinese Elevator Manufacturer
Case Introduction
As the intelligent transformation of the manufacturing industry continues to accelerate, more and more companies are adopting automated intralogistics solutions to improve production efficiency and optimize shop floor operations.
In industries such as elevator manufacturing and machinery processing, long materials—including elevator door headers, door frame panels, and metal profiles—are characterized by their considerable length, heavy weight, and complex transportation routes. These challenges place higher demands on material handling equipment in terms of maneuverability, operational safety, and intelligent automation.

In a project for a leading Chinese elevator manufacturer, Multiway Robotics delivered an intelligent intralogistics solution tailored for long-material handling. Centered on the MW-O30 Omnidirectional Autonomous Side Loader, together with the RCS (Robot Control System) and WCS (Warehouse Control System), the solution automates long-material transportation, warehouse material flow, and equipment management, helping the customer enhance the intelligence and efficiency of its manufacturing logistics.
The customer is a leading Chinese elevator manufacturer with a modern production facility specializing in the manufacturing of elevators and related components. Its production processes involve the frequent handling of long components such as elevator door headers and door frame panels.
The project involves a wide variety of oversized components, with the longest material measuring up to 5.5 meters. Transporting these long materials throughout the factory requires material handling equipment with superior maneuverability, operational stability, and adaptability to confined spaces.
Manual handling of long materials is easily affected by narrow aisles, shared workspaces, and interactions with personnel. These factors demand highly experienced operators while increasing safety management challenges on the shop floor.
As the customer continues its smart manufacturing transformation, it sought to automate material handling tasks while achieving real-time equipment monitoring and digital traceability throughout the logistics process.
To address these challenges, the customer chose to implement an intelligent intralogistics solution that automates the entire long-material handling process.

To meet the customer's long-material handling requirements, Multiway Robotics developed an integrated intralogistics solution combining autonomous forklifts with intelligent software systems. Tailored to the operational needs of the elevator manufacturing industry, the solution enables intelligent material handling, warehouse operations, and equipment management.
For the handling of long and high-value materials, Multiway Robotics developed the MW-O Series Omnidirectional Autonomous Side Loaders.
Featuring a side-loading configuration, the MW-O Series supports multiple driving modes, including forward, reverse, lateral movement, and zero-radius rotation, enabling flexible transportation and storage of long materials such as metal profiles, pipes, sheet materials, and elevator components.
The platform supports customized payload capacities of up to 8,000 kg and lifting heights of up to 8,000 mm. In addition, the vehicle body, forks, and other key components can be customized to meet specific application requirements. While ensuring stable material handling, the MW-O Series maximizes warehouse space utilization and meets the automation needs of industries handling oversized and heavy materials.
In this project, Multiway Robotics deployed the MW-O30 Omnidirectional Autonomous Side Loader to provide an intelligent handling solution for long elevator components. The vehicle primarily transports elevator door headers and door frame panels, with the longest material measuring 5.5 meters and a maximum payload of 1,500 kg.
The MW-O30 automates material receiving, warehouse transfer, and outbound delivery, enabling fully automated production logistics throughout the manufacturing process.

To enable seamless collaboration between logistics automation and manufacturing operations, the project also deployed Multiway Robotics' self-developed RCS (Robot Control System), WCS (Warehouse Control System), and Horizons Vision System. Together, these systems coordinate logistics task scheduling, equipment management, and intelligent environmental perception, creating a fully integrated and intelligent logistics operation.
The RCS is responsible for robot task scheduling, route planning, and multi-robot fleet coordination, ensuring efficient execution of material handling tasks while optimizing operational efficiency across the entire logistics system.

The WCS connects business systems with shop-floor equipment, enabling autonomous forklift task execution, real-time equipment status monitoring, and coordinated logistics process management to ensure seamless and efficient warehouse operations.

The Horizons Vision System leverages intelligent visual perception capabilities to enable environment recognition, personnel detection, and operational status monitoring. It provides autonomous forklifts with enhanced environmental awareness and intelligent decision-making support, ensuring safer and more efficient operations in complex industrial environments.

By integrating intelligent software systems with autonomous forklift equipment, Multiway Robotics creates a closed-loop logistics process covering task assignment, intelligent scheduling, and automated execution, helping customers accelerate the digital transformation of manufacturing logistics.
